day 4 - akihabara and kabuki

we're running low on money so we're doing our best to budget as much as possible. we have three days left before we leave for hong kong and we don't plan on dipping into our hong kong/shanghai funds. the remainder three days we plan to eat cheap and more sightseeing. our fourth day in tokyo, we visited akihabara and kabuki. akihabara is the electronic capitol of japan. yodobashi, a popular electronics vendor located all over tokyo, built one of the biggest electronic stores in japan. the store has 9 floors with over 23,000 square meters of floor space, featuring over 600,000 products. if you can't find what you're looking for here, most likely you won't be able to find it anywhere else in japan. kabuki (located in shinjuku) is a district well-known for bars, restaurants, and is the red-light disctrict capitol of japan. as you walk through the streets of kabuki, japanese and jamaican solicitators are there to convince you to participate in their venues. prostitutes, brothels, and other sexual commerce is highly illegal in japan. unfortunately, the tokoyo police force turns a blind eye on these unethical activities. some of these illegal venues are located right next to the local police station! majority of the solicitators advertise all you can drink for $10,000yen. inside the bar, customers are accomdated by bar-girls and they have an option to purchase drinks for them at a rediculous price ($1,000yen-$3,000yen per drink). gaijins, also known as foreigners, are usually left alone around these areas. majority of the local venues are relectant to do business with foreigners due to communication barrier. lonely women, cheating spouses, or even girls who just want to have fun are able to be entertained in venues accomdated by young japanese men.
